Nokia X10 will be a slider QWERTY keyboard that will build on Symbian OS^3. We have an ARM processor at 600 MHz, 256 MB RAM, a 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16 GB or 32 GB storage space, 5 MP camera, HSDPA, Wi-Fi and A-GPS. In other words, about all you have to have a top phone.

Windows Mobile is dead, long live Windows Phone

February 20, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Review, Windows Mobile, Windows Phone

There was a time when Windows Mobile was one of the most used operating system on smartphones and PDAs. But as the carefree times of Internet Explorer went on slipping away, so he went and market share of Windows Mobile. Microsoft had sex again in one ear and woke up that is far behind the competition in terms of technology.

This is going to get too much play to move quickly. Wilt and you put yourself in the race others. Then have to pull hard to recover. So is Microsoft Internet Explorer and Windows Mobile. Two similar mistakes that, if their interests known, Microsoft would have to make them.

Windows Mobile was a great operating system at a time. Then came Apple and Google with their claims too-zoom and made Windows Mobile look a quaint old man. Microsoft woke up so that Windows Mobile is far behind the times and competition. And so decided it was time to put foot down and come up with something new.

Windows Phone is not a phone

Last week Google kid that we did not find a more inspired name for the buzz. Nor those from Microsoft not seem inspired. Windows Mobile version will be called from Windows 7 Phone.

It is not just a marketing găselniţă inspired. Plus it is clearly the source of inspiration in choosing this name: Google Phone. The difference is that Google chose this name for a phone, even if the phone was manufactured by HTC. Microsoft Phone is given a name Windows operating system, not a phone. That in the future Microsoft could sell under their own brand handsets made by other manufacturers, is nothing.

In other news there will be a Windows Mobile 7, but a Windows Phone 7 Series. Has not yet announced any phone to run this version.

February 20, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - BlackBerry, Global Mobile Awards, HTC, Samsung

The Global Mobile Awards jury decided: the phone of 2009 is smartphone HTC Hero. On the nominations list was found in May 9700 Blackberry Bold, Samsung Omnia HD, Samsung S5230 Star and Huawei U8220 (T-Mobile Pulse).

What can we say, we are happy that HTC Hero was elected, even if Omnia HD was preferred by most of us. Taiwanese smartphone is really valued and dignified facilities, despite some shortcomings such as inability to transfer files via Bluetooth or lack of advanced multimedia support, is back with a huge potential platform (Android). Applications will certainly appear to cover gaps.

Verizon Allow 3G Skype Calls on BlackBerrys

February 17, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - 3G, BlackBerry, Verizon

Verizon, just announced with Skype at MWC that they have created an exclusive easy to use Skype application for BlackBerrys. No word yet on the release date but they promise to have more information by next month. The upcoming Skype/Verizon application will allow you to:

* make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to any Skype user around the globe
* call international phone numbers at competitive Skype Out calling rates
* send and receive instant messages to other Skype users
* remain always connected with the ability to see friends’ online presence

When launched the new Skype mobile application will be available for the BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition, and Tour 9630. I am really curious to know how Verizon has managed to get full VoIP working on BlackBerrys but I welcome it all the same. Compared to other smartphones which already have 3G Skype calling this is not really a game changer but for BlackBerry users who have yet to see a true VoIP solution this is huge!

February 17, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - BlackBerry, News

RIM is just offering a free scaled down version of BlackBerry Enterprise server for small businesses and midsized companies who do not want to invest in a full blown BlackBerry Enterprise server. I really hope RIM has a consumer solution up their sleeve since this is just a cost effective watered down BES 5.0 corporate solution.

To summarize this new BES Express works with Exchange 2010, 2007, and 2003 running on Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 or 2008. It can also be installed on the same server as Exchange, on its own server, and it is also VMware ESX certified. It will provide most of the features in BES such as:
