Closer Look: Samsung U940 Glyde

Samsung U940 Glyde

After a long wait Samsung U940 Glyde has finally arrived at Verizon wireless. We told you what’s happening and now it’s time to take a closer look. One of the most discussed events of the week was the release of the new HTC Touch Diamond in London, so Samsung’s Glyde might have missed all the attention.

So I was telling you how this phone is a possible competitor to current smart phones. Let’s see some of its most important features and compare them to the iPhone. We won’t be going through all the specs we gave you yesterday; you don’t have all day to read about this, right?

Do we like the design? It’s slick and slim, resembling the iPhone. Well, the U940 is based on the former F700 which came out before the iPhone. Did Apple get inspired by Samsung?

Glyde combines the cool touch screen with the very useful slide-in full QWERTY keyboard for those text messengers/internet surfers out there. But the screen is only 2.75 inch which might not be enough for all our needs. As for the keyboard, although a definite plus compared to other touch-only phones, this one doesn’t have any numeric keys so you won’t be able to call by using it. Whenever the keyboard is opened the screen goes to landscape which will improve your browsing experience. We’ll call it a tie. iPhone’s screen size with the full keyboard of the Glyde.

There’s full 3G services support (EV-DO connectivity where available) for the Samsung. The iPhone will get the 3G soon but until then, U940 wins at this category. You would need some space to fully enjoy all that 3G data coming in and out right? The Glyde has an internal memory of 45MB which is upgradeable to 8GB. This is pretty good but less that the iPhone starting from 8GB and going to a presumed 32GB.

From all the info available on the Internet you can easily make up your mind. Is the Samsung U940 Glyde a good Verizon deal or you should wait more?
