Nokia 6212 classic the classic-shaped


Today Nokia announced the latest NFC-enabled handset – the classic-shaped Nokia 6212 classic. Near field communication or NFC is the next generation of mobile connectivity (based on Bluetooth though) and Nokia 6212 classic allows user to seamlessly share content, pay bills or use their cellphone as an electronic traveling ticket.

Onboard the Nokia 6212 classic you will find a 2 megapixel snapper, microSD memory card slot (up to 4GB), miniUSB port, FM radio, and stereo Bluetooth. All this runs on the popular non-smartphone Nokia S40 software platform, such as Nokia 6212 classic.

Nokia introduced a new phone today featuring NFC, the Nokia 6212 Classic. This new 3G handset adds Near Field Communication (NFC), which enables information sharing, service initiation, and payment and ticketing capability through contactless data transfer. Nokia 6212 classic to ensure security, payment transactions can only be authorized after a user-identified passcode has been entered. The NFC treatment has also been applied to the Nokia 6212 classic’s Bluetooth system, which supports touch based NFC Bluetooth pairing. The touch based pairing and transfer can be used for things like sending a photo from the phone to a picture frame or for linking up with Nokia’s own NFC capable Bluetooth headset, the BH-210.

With a simple tap on the Nokia 6212 classic, users can quickly and easily exchange business cards and calendar items. Nokia includes three NFC sticker tags in its box so users can create and edit their own NFC-enabled tasks, such as launching an application or changing ring profiles.

The Nokia 6212 Classic will be available in 2008 in select markets of Asia and Europe. The estimated retail pricing for the handset is 200 Euro, before taxes and subsidies.
