Windows Mobile is dead, long live Windows Phone
There was a time when Windows Mobile was one of the most used operating system on smartphones and PDAs. But as the carefree times of Internet Explorer went on slipping away, so he went and market share of Windows Mobile. Microsoft had sex again in one ear and woke up that is far behind the competition in terms of technology.
This is going to get too much play to move quickly. Wilt and you put yourself in the race others. Then have to pull hard to recover. So is Microsoft Internet Explorer and Windows Mobile. Two similar mistakes that, if their interests known, Microsoft would have to make them.
Windows Mobile was a great operating system at a time. Then came Apple and Google with their claims too-zoom and made Windows Mobile look a quaint old man. Microsoft woke up so that Windows Mobile is far behind the times and competition. And so decided it was time to put foot down and come up with something new.
Windows Phone is not a phone
Last week Google kid that we did not find a more inspired name for the buzz. Nor those from Microsoft not seem inspired. Windows Mobile version will be called from Windows 7 Phone.
It is not just a marketing găselniţă inspired. Plus it is clearly the source of inspiration in choosing this name: Google Phone. The difference is that Google chose this name for a phone, even if the phone was manufactured by HTC. Microsoft Phone is given a name Windows operating system, not a phone. That in the future Microsoft could sell under their own brand handsets made by other manufacturers, is nothing.
In other news there will be a Windows Mobile 7, but a Windows Phone 7 Series. Has not yet announced any phone to run this version.
Windows Phone 7 – some pieces of puzzle
Microsoft made the first official announcements related to Windows Phone 7 these days MWC 2010. Do not know yet the full information about it, but we can sketch the profile of the future Windows Phone.
The first interface is completely different from what we knew before. It has nothing to do with previous versions, was developed from 0.
The main menu is composed of squares large enough to be easily pressed his fingers and Steve Ballmer. They have fixed dimensions and are designed to fit the price on the phone screen. To show all the squares have been scroll, and the least squares are not always shown completely visible.
Windows Phone 7 is designed as an operating system connected to the Internet. Information from the standby screen, such as weather conditions are updated constantly. Contacts include information (status on Facebook for example) which also requires an Internet connection.
Windows Phone 7 will organize information into sections such as People, Pictures, Games, Music + Video, Marketplace, or Office. Music + Video Section is, in fact, porting software from the Zune player HD.
Internet connection is essential for most functions in Windows Phone. Another example is saving online photos. Here we go, and other applications like Pandora, who can listen to the radio station of the same name.
Browser and other applications
Default Internet browser is, of course, Internet Explorer. A little hair styling, with tabs and customizable home page, Internet Explorer is still an unpleasant memory for most of us. At least Microsoft, unlike Apple, lets you install other browsers.
Obviously, as any version of Internet Explorer, the speed advantage will not be principa l. If there is something unexpected to the official launch your default browser will be one of the weaknesses of Windows Phone.
With all the changes and interface structure, old applications will not work on Windows Phone. Developers will be forced to take over again and to reshape their programs.
In addition, it is very clear with multitasking your work. The people from Microsoft have been rather evasive on the subject. It appears that Windows will tread in the steps Phone iPhone (and) in this regard.
Hardware
After words of Steve Ballmer, Microsoft will be more selective when deciding which phones will be installed on Windows Phone. Rather than allow a manufacturer to install Windows Phone of his head on a phone that could go wrong, Microsoft will require some minimum conditions to ensure at least a decent experience.
So the Windows Phone will be, theoretically, installed only on phones with capacitive touchscreen, 5 MP camera, accelerometer, etc.. On the list of partners with whom Microsoft has announced that it will work are found names such as, LG, Samsung, HTC, HP, Dell, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Qualcomm and Garmin Asus. With so many producers behind normal as quickly as Windows Phone to gain market share.
That said, we still only have patience and see the new operating system in pixels and colors. It is too early to reach a conclusion or to support the Windows Phone will be successful or not expected. Certainly it would be an interesting war between the three musketeers: Apple, Google and Microsoft. Nokia D’Artagnan to all over this story?
