BlackBerry

Good news for all of the Fido BlackBerry wannabes out there. As expected and just like we told you last week, Fido did indeed begin training its employees for the arrival of BlackBerry with a targeted launch date of February 4. Sadly it looks like Fido really is going to start things off with the Pearl 8100, but at least it’s going to allow people to BYOBB. Well, unofficially at least.

The 8100 will go for $400 month-to-month/off contract, $350 on a 2-year, and $25 on a 3-year with voice and data. As for the data plans to be offered, they are as follows:

$15 – Unlimited personal email and IM
$25 – 500MB
$30 – 1GB
$60 – 3GB

Yes, we can! Maybe all the hootin’ and hollerin’ about Barack’s quandary regarding the status of his BlackBerry actually ended up helping the President keep the addictive device. For personal use only, Mr. Obama’s BlackBerry will still be in commission, though we do hope he opts to upgrade to a Bold or 8900, at least (give us a call Mr. President, we’ll hook you up)! It will make it more worthwhile since he will be forced to use an awkward and clunky-looking Sectera Edge, which has been approved by the NSA for official use, as a business device. As if this news wasn’t the best free advertising anyone can get, the folks at RIM must be bursting with glee. While we’re all familiar with the device that has been like an appendage for Obama, you might be interested in taking a peek at the Sectera Edge, so hit the jump for an image and details!

sierra-wireless-usb-modem_cradle_mVerizon Wireless customers in the market for a new phone may want to wait a bit before bringing home the latest and greatest Verizon has to offer. We have it on good authority that Verizon will be discounting a handful of handsets and a few broadband access modems, possibly as soon as January 22nd. This would be an unusual out of cycle discount as the current rebate sheet continues until January 31st. Select hardware from Verizon Wireless, LG, Casio, Motorola, Samsung and RIM will supposedly see their mail-in rebates increased from $50 to $70. Sure the out of pocket expense is the same but a $20 discount is a $20 discount even if it comes in the form of a rebate check. With the current state of the economy, we’ll take any discount we can get. Hit the jump for a full list of discounted hardware according to our ninja.

One of our secret agents sent in some info about the upcoming FIDO BlackBerry 8100 launch. He found the info on Howard Forums but I cannot find the thread now.

RogersRogers has just released a slew of new BlackBerry data plans for your emailing and browsing pleasure. There’s still no unlimited BIS option, which is a bit confounding given the upcoming unlimited iPhone Data plan, but this is Rogers after all, so we’re not terribly shocked. The new plans breakdown as follows:

$30 – 300 MB
$60 – 1 GB
$80 – 3 GB
$100 – 6 GB

BlackBerry RSS Reader & More.
I know many of use Viigo already while some of you are even using the new Viigo Project Tango Beta. We have been playing with this idea for awhile and thought it would be great to create a BerryReview branded version of Viigo. I use Viigo practically every day while riding the subway and have been a fan since the early days (remember those?) when it was called NewsClip.

Viigo BerryReview Editon

Since Viigo/NewsClip was first released back in 2005 Viigo has grown into the leading RSS and mobile content viewer for the BlackBerry OS. Viigo truly makes BerryReview portable. Our full content RSS feeds, including images, maintain their look and format perfectly in Viigo. Viigo also lets you easily open each article to view the mobile version of the BerryReview website. Their upcoming Project Tango really promises to impress. I can’t wait to see how podcasts work in future versions.

Viigo BerryReview Editon

Sadly there is no BerryReview branded Tango beta but once Tango is out of beta it will be available. We will also (hopefully) start recommending some great RSS feeds to add to Viigo. We are planning this release so that we can offer you an interactive mobile experience when the more customizable Project Tango is released.

RoboForm Public Beta For BlackBerry

So far we have been staying out of the speculation field on different Bold release dates that have been floating around. On the other hand I just got some hard evidence from one of our readers Oren that the Bold will be released on Vodaphone on July 30th. I know this is later than the rumored Rogers or AT&T release but so far I can’t confirm or deny that. Hopefully Vodaphone readers will be happy about the news.
