LG

It was just a scant few days ago that we saw the first live pictures of the upcoming Verizon Wireless VX9600 Versa. Now we have a tentative release date for all you folks excited to see this modular LG Dare-Voyager hybrid hit the market. According to Best Buy Mobile’s inventory system, the LG VX9600 is slated for release on February 22, 2009. You can expect it to hit Verizon Wireless stores and website around the same time. Whether this modular phone will wow us with its “versatility” or be a good idea gone bad remains to be seen but at least we now know how long we have to wait to find out.

sierra-wireless-usb-modem_cradle_mVerizon Wireless customers in the market for a new phone may want to wait a bit before bringing home the latest and greatest Verizon has to offer. We have it on good authority that Verizon will be discounting a handful of handsets and a few broadband access modems, possibly as soon as January 22nd. This would be an unusual out of cycle discount as the current rebate sheet continues until January 31st. Select hardware from Verizon Wireless, LG, Casio, Motorola, Samsung and RIM will supposedly see their mail-in rebates increased from $50 to $70. Sure the out of pocket expense is the same but a $20 discount is a $20 discount even if it comes in the form of a rebate check. With the current state of the economy, we’ll take any discount we can get. Hit the jump for a full list of discounted hardware according to our ninja.

LG Shine

Koodo Mobile has been a little quiet recently, but that is all going to chance now that the carrier has added the LG Shine in an exclusive gray color. With the LG Shine already launching on Telus, Koodo Mobile users now have a chance to get their hands on a quality handset with its 2.0 megapixel camera and microSD slot.

The Koodo Mobile LG Shine will be available for $225 without contract and should have no problem delivering significant sales figures. In case you didn’t catch the magnitude of the no contract price, Telus currently sells the LG Shine for $399.99 sans contract. While Koodo Mobile is a brand of Telus, it seems the carrier is playing favorites with their phone pricing.

LG KS360

If you ever felt jealous of your friends on Sprint using the LG Rumor, the LG KS360 looks to be a GSM variant aimed at a similar audience. With Communicasia 2008 now taking place in Singapore, LG has unveiled a Triband GSM GPRS/EDGE QWERTY slider that looks very reminiscent of the LG Rumor here in the States made famous by Sprint. With a 2.4 inches screen running at 240 x 320 pixels, the LG KS360 is set to only release in Asia. Although the device will only be available in Asia initially, recent FCC filing and approvals should take care of any requirements preventing a US launch later this year.

LG Chocolate 3It’s hard to avoid jumping on the bandwagon when Sprint and AT&T (by way of Apple, of course) are starting to hustle hard with the visual voicemail trend. We’ve caught wind that VVM is actually shockingly close to launching on a handful of Verizon devices; the current target is late July to early August. That’s the good news. The bad news, though, is that it’ll run $1.99 on top of your regular plan pricing, which feels like a bit of a rip when the crosstown competitors are doing it at no additional charge. The feature will take the form of a BREW download that can be snagged and provisioned by the customer in the field without any customer service intervention, and will launch on specific devices.

lg decoy

LaptopMag whipped out a quick review of Verizon‘s newest cell phone with piggybacking Bluetooth headset and for the most part, they like. The LG Decoy does seem to shine, in fact they call it brilliant, the pairing process with the headset’s a breeze, they love that it charges while nestled in the back of the handset, and when not using little stowaway, the speakerphone is loud. Of course, there seem to be a few drawbacks, headset battery life is a pitiful 2 hours, the two-in-one combo at 4.1 ounces is a tad hefty, wind noise is a serious problem, and at $179 after discount, it’s pricey.
