Short Review: Sony Ericsson P5i

May 14, 2008 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - Review, Sony Ericsson

Heading this way real soon is the Sony Ericsson P5i, the latest in a long line of glorious Sony Ericsson smartphones. Still codenamed Paris, the P5i hasn’t yet been officially announced, but as these new pics show, it certainly won’t be long before it’s launched in blaze of hype.

Sony Ericsson P5i

It looks superb, despite the fact it’s got one of those annoying rocker-style keypads first seen on the M600i. It’s features aren’t too shabby, either, with touchscreen, GPS, 5 megapixel camera, WayFinder 7.0 software, and a weather application as well.

Concept phones may never materialize and may never be a part of real life, but they sure do give us a glimpse into the future just like the Nokia’s Morph.

Packet Phone

The cell phone measures 5 x 5 cm while folded, once open it reveals four panels of 5 x 5 cm, which compromise of a touch screen, mini keyboard, and surface with touch sensitive buttons. The design of the phone is said to be inspired by the art of origami, and is proposed to be made from e-paper, making it extra thin and light.

LG KF700

With three input methods, the KF700 seems to be channeling the Sony Ericsson P series except that this particular model looks more like a cellphone than a smartphone. The KF700 comes with three input methods that work together to provide the overall user experience: slide down keypad, touch screen and the “jog dial” of SE folklore which LG calls the “Shortcut dial”.

Nokia Nixes N93

Of all Nseries handsets that Nokia has issued over the years, the N90 / N92 / N93 / N93i have what is by far the most unique form factor. Is it a phone? Is it a messenger? Is it a digital camcorder? Yes, yes and yes. The camera quality, especially on the latter models, was incredible and arguably trumped even the 5 megapixel camera found on the N95 line of handsets. Read more…

Samsung launches Guru200 candybar in India

Guru200

At first glance this handset looks boring enough to make even a seasoned professional cry, but hold up just one hot second: it has at least one cool feature that we’d be willing to be a day’s wage (not really) that your phone can’t do. The Samsung Guru200, follow-on to the recently released Guru10, features FM radio recording, putting an extra twist on the regular FM radio that’s virtually standard on every cellphone sold across India.

philips-xenium-x-connect

A couple things you should know about this purported Philips Xenium X-Connect before churning your gadget juices through the emotional Osterizer. First, it’s clearly a product rendering. Second, Philips Xenium cellphones are primarily found in Asia Pacific region as such, a European or North American launch is likely out of the question. If the X-Connect is the real-deal, however, here’s what we’ll be missing: 3G UMTS/HSDPA radios, Windows Mobile 6, GPS receiver, microSD slot, AA/AAA battery backup, and Bluetooth 2.0 all powered by a 624MHz Intel processor beneath a 3.0-inch (presumably touchscreen) display. Still, as a broadly positioned “communication device,” maybe we’ll see Philips reach out to different geographies this time around.

Philips new Xenium 800 touchscreen phone leaks out

xenium-800
If you had a creeping suspicion that the iPhone-esque phone market wasn’t crowded enough yet — you’re right. Apparently, Philips is about to throw its hat in the ring with a device called the Xenium X800. The familiar looking unit will sport WiFi, a WQVGA “e2e” touchscreen, and appears to be running a proprietary OS which looks considerably better than most phones in this class. Sure, it’s heavily knocking off Sony’s XMB and that new BlackBerry OS 4.6, but there are worse offenses that could be made. No word on more detailed specs, but you’ll know more when we do. In the meantime, take a look at a few more pics after the break.
