We know that Softbank, not DoCoMo or KDDI, the number and two carrier in Japan, will release the iPhone to the Japanese. But few have realized the implication of this. An online study conducted by iSHARE illustrates what exactly this means: iPhone will not be a big sell in Japan. Only 9% of people between 20 and 49 says they will buy an iPhone. Now, unless Japanese teens have money for a smartphone and the older Japanese population gets interested with multi-touch and the virtual keyboard, the iPhone is destined for semi-anonymity there. Unless Apple decides to put in a 1-SEG tuner. Even in Japan, the iPhone screen resolution is quite advanced, if nothing else meets Japanese requirements.

With WCDMA 1700 and 2100 MHz support, the Sony Ericsson TM506 is set for a T-mobile launch. While the last Sony Ericsson to sell on the carrier’s network was the T610 back in July 2003, the recent launch of the 1700 MHz band is well deserving for some SE love. Although T-mobile has not confirmed the device and we only have FCC filings to go by, the last of the big four carriers to launch a 3G network is the only likely candidate to make use of the 1700 / 2100 MHz bands. Yesterday we reported that the new Verizon Wireless Rebate Sheet showed the Casio G’zOne Boulder launching within the next few weeks and today some pictures have been leaked. With the military grade capable of withstanding even the toughest falls, the G’zOne is slated to launch on Verizon’s new Push to Talk (PTT) network and compete directly with Sprint’s QChat.

With a VGA camera and support for EVDO Rev A, the G’zOne Boulder comes with a screw lock battery cover and charging contacts outside of the G’zOne Series. While weight and dimension information is still a mystery, the rumor on the street is the G’zOne Boulder is much slimmer than the original.

I am still trying to understand where the Javelin fits into the whole BlackBerry product line but I guess I will stay in the dark for now. Chris of Engadget Mobile scored some shots of a dummy BlackBerry Javelin that look authentic. It looks very similar to the Bold with one major thing missing: 3G.
RIM does tack on a 3.2 megapixel camera but if the 2MP camera on the curve is any indication the quality will still suck. It is supposed to have a nice screen but other than that I don’t see why they would come up with this device AFTER they release the Bold?

More refurbished Apple iPhone 8GB and Apple iPhone 16GB handsets are on sale. They had run out of them for a while, along with their non-refurbished phones, but now they are back in stock. The Apple iPhone 8GB & iPhone 16GB handsets are a good deal at just $249 and $349, however, if you’re wanting the 3G iPhone, you can take a look here.
This may actually be your last chance to grab up one of the non-3G iPhone’s as the new model is expected to release in the middle of June (I presuppose 21 June 2008). If you do decide to buy the refurbished Apple iPhone 8GB or Apple iPhone 16GB, at least you can know that all refurbished handsets are covered under one year’s worth of warranty and will ship to your door for free.
