Motorola stocks dipped to a five-year low in yesterday’s trading spelling more trouble to the beleaguered handset manufacturer. Moto plans to split into two companies, but whether the market will regain its confidence on Motorola after the split remains to be seen.
My on opinion? Moto’s handset division needs a buyer. Moto needs a major injection of new ideas. Right now, none of its current lineup of handsets seem formidable enough in the current mobile climate. The RAZR might have been Moto’s biggest success, but the line proved to be true to its name as it also spelled suicide for the company that just refused to accept the glory days are over.

Stereo Bluetooth of Motorola ROKR EQ5 has a nasty habit of detuning audio quality just enough to make it noticeable for folks that are paying close attention to their music, and portable speakers have a nasty habit of just not sounding very good in general.

The prototype unit we tested looked great, felt great in the hand, and slides into just about any pant or bag pocket for safe stowage. It paired like a champ with a Samsung BlackJack II and a Nokia N95 8GB.

Motorola‘s latest attempt at stopping their market share from vanishing into thin air is the Z9, a slim slider handset making waves on AT&T‘s high-speed HSDPA network.

The Motorola Z9 is a large handset, measuring 114mm x 54mm x 14mm (4.5″ x 2.1″ x 0.5″). It feels very wide in your hand, and the 140g (4.9oz) gives a noticable heft.

Lending credence to the fact that Motorola‘s bringing a phone called the VU30 to Verizon in the near future is this, the “VU20” that we just saw pop up in the FCC’s approval records. The manual for the roundish, nondescript flip makes mention of NATE and June — both features of SK Telecom — leading us to believe that it’ll definitely be landing in South Korea where Moto maintains a noticeable presence. Is a interesting cell phone for classic peoples.
